Azam Ali completed his PhD (2000) in polymer science & engineering. Over 22 years he builds his research, teaching and leadership profession working in various Institutes in USA, South Korea, Malaysia and New Zealand. His current role, Associate Prof. & Director for Bioengineering program and also Director for the Centre for Bioengineering & Nanomedicine in University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand.

Dr. Azam is an internationally recognized biomaterials and medical devices/technology expert who has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and two book chapters. He holds 18 international patents and 5 products specifications. Dr. Azam has developed numerous products/technology. He has invented 5 medical devices which are commercialized in the USA, EU, NZ, AU, Singapore (worldwide). He awarded the prestigious ‘Bayer Innovators Award in Science and Health (2010)’ for his outstanding science contribution to the Health and Science areas. His current R&D activities largely from fundamental to applied research, and his research interest include, biobased materials/biomaterials, nanostructure materials, bioplastics, biocomposites, medical textiles, medical devices, bioengineering and regenerative medicine.

At present, he serves as editor in chief for the Journal of Materials Sci. & Eng., and also the member of the editorial boards of the journal of Bioactive Materials (Elsevier Science).
