The 15th International Symposium on Bioplastics, Biocomposites and Biorefining (ISBBB) took place from July 24 - 27, 2018 at the Delta Guelph Hotel and Conference Centre. The event was attended by over 300 delegates from 25 countries. Participation representation was from academia, industry, and the government sector, with a high rate of participation from trainees.

The judges for this year's poster awards competition were Prof. Srikanth Pilla from Clemson University, USA; Prof. Nandika D'Souza from the University of North Texas, USA; and Dr. Jaya Shankar Tumuluru from Idaho National Laboratory, USA. 

The poster competition was split into three separate categories: Undergraduate, Graduate (Masters, PhD), and Senior Researchers (Post-Doc, Professors, etc.). 

The following prizes were awarded to presenters in each category:

Undergraduate Category:

First Place: Ximing Li, University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada

Synthesis of highly fluorescent carbon dots using trans-aconitic acid and diethylenetriamine

Second Place: Xuning Zhang, University of Toronto, Toronto, ON, Canada

Fabrication of Graphite/Cellulose Composite Paper as Flexible Electrode

Third Place: Alexandra Ball, University of Guelph, Guelph, ON, Canada

All presenters may take part in the ISBBB Poster Competition in three different categories:

  • Undergraduate Students
  • Graduate Students (Master's, PhD) 
  • Senior Researchers (Professors, Post-Docs, etc.) 

The subject of your poster presentation may be the same topic as your oral presentation, or a different one. If you would like to present on a different subject, you may submit your abstract online through the submission form: Please submit your abstract online by June 15, 2018

We are pleased to announce a new addition to ISBBB 2018: Thematic Break-out Panel Sessions! 

Distinguished speakers will be joining the Thematic Break-out Panels to give relevant talks of their experience in industry, academia, and government. 

Wood Plastic Composites (WPC): North America, Europe and China Perspective: This panel will consist of four experts from global WPC researchers and related industries. They will present and discuss the challenges associated with Quality and Marketing of WPC products for diverse applications, potential trading remedies for global import and export markets, and future growth opportunities in decking, siding and beyond.

Circular Economy Towards Innovation in Industries: Four industry experts will provide the outlooks of their respective companies on how they are working towards a Circular Economy. This panel will present and discuss the innovations of their company’s products and how it helps to improve the sustainability of materials including plastics and fuels.
